As every year, the Arcalís peak became the stage for a singular solar phenomenon. For three minutes, light passed through a natural cavity in the rock. Mountaineers and curious onlookers experienced it first-hand on an outing organized by Grandvalira.
The sun and the mountain met for three minutes. This Thursday, August 7, at 7:37 a.m., as dawn uniquely illuminated the summit of Arcalís peak, piercing a natural cavity between its rocks.
During that brief instant, the sunlight precisely passed through a natural opening, revealing a filtered dawn as if it were an ancient celestial mechanism.
The Grandvalira Mountain Guides (GMG) led the ascent to the summit. With headlamps and the silence of early morning, dozens of people climbed to the exact spot where the light aligned with the mountain.
This phenomenon, rediscovered years ago by Bonaventura Adellach, is suspected to have been known by those who inhabited these lands long ago. Today, it is a tradition that brings together mountaineers, locals, and visitors in search of an unrepeatable moment.
After the observation, the activity concluded with breakfast at La Coma restaurant, at the foot of the peak. A warm end to a morning where the mountain once again spoke with its own light.
