Agreement Reached Between Steamboat Springs and Steam Ski & Resort Corporation

The City of Steamboat Springs and Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation have signed an agreement that will mark a before and after in mobility. Beginning November 1, 2025, the ski resort will contribute $2.75 million annually to stably fund the operating and capital costs of the Steamboat Springs Transit public transportation system.

The contribution includes the maintenance equivalent to sales tax generated at on-mountain restaurants and shops outside city limits, plus a direct financial commitment to bolster the free transportation service connecting residents, employees, and visitors.

“We value SSRC's long-term commitment to public transit and their willingness to formalize and expand that support,” said City Manager Tom Leeson. “This agreement ensures long-term funding for a system that is the backbone of our community year-round.”

A Forward-Thinking Agreement

The agreement, which will extend until October 31, 2045, replaces previous voluntary contribution agreements and consolidates historical commitments linked to land use approvals for public transit. Starting in the fourth year, the contribution will be adjusted annually for inflation, ensuring the system's economic sustainability.

In addition to funding, SSRC and the city will collaborate on service evaluation, reporting, and developing a brand identity that reflects the shared investment in sustainable transportation.

Service Guarantee for Residents and Visitors

The city will continue to determine SST service levels with the goal of maintaining or improving the current standard, comparable to the 2024/2025 ski season. This means that both in winter and summer, efforts will be made to preserve the frequency, coverage, and quality of service connecting residential areas to the mountain area.

With this agreement, Steamboat Springs and SSRC reinforce their role as leaders in the management of mountain tourist destinations, opting for sustainable mobility that not only facilitates access to the slopes but also benefits enthusiasts.
