Norwegian skier prepares for World Cup return After 700 days since his accident, the Norwegian skier is reportedly preparing for his return to the Ski World Cup.
Skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde is considering a return to competition this Thursday in the Copper Mountain (USA) super-G event, according to recent reports from his home country. The 32-year-old athlete has not competed in an official race since January 13, 2024, when he suffered a serious accident during the Wengen downhill, resulting in a dislocated shoulder and a deep leg wound with nerve damage.
While continuing his rehabilitation, in July 2024, his recovery was complicated by a shoulder infection, requiring the removal of some surgical hardware. Medical reports published at the time indicated that the infection reached bone tissue and led to a sepsis episode, significantly extending the projected recovery time. In February of the following year, he underwent another surgery in Innsbruck to stabilize the joint.
According to various Norwegian publications, in recent months Kilde has resumed on-snow training in diverse settings: from glaciers to indoor slopes within the country. Concurrently, he has followed a specific physical program to regain strength and improve shoulder mobility.
Rumors suggest the skier is already in the United States and could be on the starting line tonight, November 26, in Copper Mountain. Although he still harbors some doubts about the complete stability of his shoulder, his most recent training sessions reflect positive progress. During the summer months, he admitted he still had difficulty raising his arm above his head.
For now, Kilde has not made specific statements about when he intends to return to the circuit regularly. However, for months he has been using the World Cup speed event calendar as a guide, aiming to reach his best physical and technical condition for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
