While most European resorts have already put away their skis until next winter, some mountains continue to defy the calendar. Thanks to high altitudes and exceptional conditions this season, several glaciers are still offering snow even in the middle of summer, allowing for descents when beaches and terraces dominate the rest of the continent.

From the Alps to Scandinavia and the Canadian Rockies, these are the best options for those not ready to say goodbye to snow.

Zermatt-Cervinia: The Vision of 365-Day Skiing

The shared glacier domain between Switzerland and Italy has become the leading European destination for summer skiing. Currently, Zermatt-Cervinia is the only area in the Alps aiming to remain open year-round, consolidating a trend that seemed impossible just a few decades ago.

Thanks to improvements in lifts and efficient connections between both sides, skiers can access the glacier from both Zermatt and Cervinia, enjoying one of the continent's most spectacular settings under the constant gaze of the Matterhorn.

Hintertux: A Pause in a Long Tradition

For years, Hintertux was synonymous with twelve-month skiing. The Austrian glacier remains open currently, although it has announced a temporary closure scheduled for July 26th.

The resort will resume activities in September and has already scheduled the official opening of its snowpark for early October. For now, it has not been confirmed if this change signals the definitive end of its year-round opening model or merely a temporary decision for this season.

Les 2 Alpes: Abundant Snow and Excellent Conditions

If there's one resort that has surprised this spring, it's Les 2 Alpes. The French glacier received nearly a meter of snow last month, unusual for this time of year, significantly improving the snowpack quality.

Current conditions allow skiing up to 2,600 meters of altitude, with areas open for both competition training and the general public. The snowpark remains operational, and the glacier is in exceptional condition for early summer.

The resort will remain open until July 5th.

Other Alpine Resorts Opening During Summer

For those planning an Alpine getaway in the coming months, several resorts will maintain summer activity:

• Saas-Fee (Switzerland): July 18th to October 31st.
• Tignes (France): June 20th to July 19th.
• Val d’Isère (France): June 13th to July 12th.

These openings are particularly geared towards competition teams, pre-season training, and skiers looking to extend the season for a few more weeks.

Scandinavia: Skiing Under the Midnight Sun

Further north, where summer barely means darkness, there are also options for gliding on snow.

Galdhøpiggen summer ski center in Norway has already started its summer season, while Riksgränsen, in Sweden, remains open for selected weekends.

It's an entirely different experience from the Alps: endless days of light, Arctic landscapes, and the possibility of skiing at times that defy any biological clock.

Canada Extends Season Thanks to Historic Snowfall

This year's surprise comes from the Canadian Rockies.

After a season marked by exceptional snowfalls, Sunshine Village, near Banff, will reopen between June 20th and July 5th to offer a brief summer ski season.

Currently, the resort maintains snow depths close to 1.8 meters at mid-elevations and over 2.3 meters in high areas—extraordinary figures for this time of year.

There won't be deep powder, but rather the relaxed, festive atmosphere characteristic of summer skiing: spring snow, t-shirts, sunny terraces, and the curious sensation of skiing in July surrounded by some of North America's most spectacular landscapes.

Options Still Available in the United States

In North America, Timberline Lodge (Oregon) remains open: daily until July 19th, making it a favorite destination for summer training and freestyle camps thanks to the quality of its glacier.

The Season Never Ends

Although the calendar marks June, for many enthusiasts, the ski season is far from over. Between Alpine glaciers, Scandinavian mountains, and North American resorts that have enjoyed record snowfalls, opportunities still exist to accumulate vertical feet before next winter arrives.
