The Internationale Fachmesse für Sportartikel und Sportmode (ISPO) will move its headquarters in 2026 from Munich to the RAI exhibition center in Amsterdam.
Since its inception in 1970 in Munich, ISPO has established itself as the premier international showcase for sports, with a particularly prominent role in the snow and winter sports sector. It is the world's leading trade fair dedicated to sports equipment, technical apparel, and outdoor gear. Each year, tens of thousands of industry professionals—including manufacturers, distributors, brands, retailers, ski resorts, and specialized media—attend this event to present and discover the latest innovations in the sports world, especially in skiing and mountain disciplines. Over time, ISPO has solidified its position as the global benchmark for sports equipment, technological innovation, and winter outdoor trends.
Historical organizer Messe München and Raccoon Media Group have announced a pivotal decision: effective 2026, the fair will relocate from Munich to the RAI exhibition center in Amsterdam. The final edition in Munich will take place from November 30 to December 2, 2025, while the new event in Amsterdam will be moved to early November. This relocation is part of a comprehensive strategic restructuring, resulting from a joint venture between the two entities, which includes a 3 million euro investment aimed at developing high-level content programs (conferences, presentations, and think tanks), initiatives to attract international buyers (hosted buyer program), and support for non-profit organizations linked to sports and sustainability. All of this will be carried out while maintaining iconic elements of the event, such as ISPO Brandnew and the ISPO Award.
The move to Amsterdam reflects an intention to redefine the trade fair model, opting for a format less focused on large exhibition spaces and more oriented towards creating valuable content, networking among industry leaders, curated buyer programs, and significant experiences. Furthermore, a crucial factor has been the decline in the number of exhibitors and visitors in Munich, which has directly impacted revenue from stands, sponsorships, and profitability, thus motivating a change in venue, approach, and management.
