Three months after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her knee due to a hit-and-run, Ana Alonso reappears with the goal of arriving at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games in the best possible condition.
After being run over and suffering a torn cruciate ligament just three months ago, the athlete from Granada will return to competition next Thursday in the World Cup event to be held in Courchevel (France).
Considered Spain's main contender in ski mountaineering for the Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo 2026 Games (Italy), Alonso arrives on time and will be put to the test just three weeks before the start of the winter Olympic event.
As reported by the EFE agency, the Andalusian is fit to compete despite the severity of the injuries sustained after being hit in early October. In that accident, she suffered, among other ailments, a rupture of the anterior cruciate and internal collateral ligaments with bone edema in the knee, a malleolar fissure, and an acromioclavicular dislocation.
European champion, world runner-up in mixed relay, and third in the last Sprint World Cup, she decided to take risks to try to be present at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games and ruled out surgery after the accident. She opted for conservative treatment and has managed to return in time to compete, although next Thursday will determine her true condition for the Courchevel event.
Ana Alonso stood out as Spain's main asset in a discipline that will debut at the Winter Olympic Games. Spain will attend the event with a strong alpine skiing team, made up of four athletes, including several candidates to compete for medals. In fact, it is the discipline in which the national team has the highest expectations of success.
