Idre Fjäll Opens Season with Mogul Slope Thanks to Snow Farming

The Swedish resort of Idre Fjäll has kicked off the 2025 season with a notable new feature: a mogul run created entirely with snow stored from last winter. Thanks to snow farming techniques, more and more Nordic resorts are opening earlier, offering ideal training conditions for clubs and professional teams from the first weeks of October.

Levi and Ruka, in Finland, were the first to open, followed by Kläppen (Sweden), which for a couple of years has turned its snowpark into a key freestyle hub. Now Idre Fjäll joins the group with a different offering: a mogul run and a cross-country ski circuit of more than five kilometers, both prepared with snow preserved over the summer.

The resort's goal is clear: to diversify its offerings and attract new training markets for both alpine and freestyle skiing. While in Hintertux (Austria) the glacier has allowed a mogul run to open with natural snow, Idre Fjäll demonstrates the potential of snow preservation techniques in regions where cold and innovation combine to extend the season.

The same weekend, the Kabdalis resort, also in Sweden, inaugurated its season with a different approach: opening to the general public with two slopes and a chairlift, seeking to reconnect with the amateur skier. A move that contrasts with the more technical and restricted openings of other resorts, and reinforces the trend of deseasonalizing and segmenting winter offerings in northern Europe.

With these early openings, Sweden consolidates its position as a leader in snow management and reuse, anticipating a promising season in which climate innovation and a passion for skiing continue to set the pace of winter.
