Javi Alonso Unveils Skifit: A Short Film Beneath the Northern Lights

Javier Alonso, ski instructor, photographer, and ambassador for Helly Hansen, left his native León to move to Baqueira Beret with the dream of experiencing and discovering skiing at its finest. He currently resides in Vielha, works on the slopes of Baqueira, and, whenever possible, embarks on trips to chase some of his most dreamed-of descents, which have already become part of his personal signature.

His latest trip to Norway resulted in a very special project: the short film Skift, an audiovisual piece reflecting his most intimate vision of skiing and the mountains. The film will premiere on December 12th at the Cinema de Vielha, where Alonso will present to the public the images he has brought back from this adventure in the far north of Norway.

Skift, which means "change" in Norwegian, is a term that perfectly defines the spirit of the project and the environment in which it unfolds: within the Arctic Circle, where everything is in constant transformation: the climate, the light, the snow, the conditions… and, of course, the plans.

The film focuses on a group of friends sharing experiences in the mountains, conveying a clear message: in any project, the essential thing is to enjoy the process. The 16-minute short film shows the team descending "right to the rocks on the beach," as Alonso recounted, describing the experience as "quite surreal." The most impactful moment comes when taking the last turn onto the sand, as the waves wet the skiers' skis and the sky is painted with the northern lights.

To date, Skift has been screened at the Pyrenees Film Festival and at Memorial María Luisa, two of the most relevant mountain film festivals, and now awaits critical and public reception. If the reception is positive, the film will continue its journey at other festivals, including the Festival Benditur de Bilbao, the Torelló Festival, and the Banff Mountain Film Festival.

The premiere at Cinema de Vielha is scheduled for December 12th, with free admission and open to the public. Additionally, attendees will receive gifts from Helly Hansen, in an event promising to combine emotion, adventure, and a passion for skiing.
