The American skier secures a historic victory in the St. Moritz downhill and becomes the oldest athlete to win a World Cup event, at 41 years old.
It has been 2,885 days since her last circuit triumph, but Lindsey Vonn has returned to the top step with a historic victory in St. Moritz. The American once again inscribes her name in the alpine skiing record books by winning today's downhill race at the Swiss resort. At 41 years old, she becomes the oldest female skier to win a World Cup race.
This success marks her first victory since 2018 and brings her total career wins to 83, once again solidifying her status as one of the greatest skiers in history.
Vonn stopped the clock at 1:29.63, clearly dominating the second half of the course. She beat Austrian Magdalena Egger, who finished in second place, by 0.98 seconds, and Mirjam Puchner, third on the podium, by 1.16 seconds. With this triumph, the American also achieves her 44th downhill victory, the specialty that has defined much of her sporting legacy.
Thanks to this result, Lindsey Vonn faces the upcoming World Cup speed events with renewed momentum and firmly maintains her ambitions for the remainder of the season, including her preparation for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
