The British mountain brand presents its 2024 Report with advances in emission reduction, recycling, and sustainable materials.

The British brand Mountain Equipment, a global leader in high mountain equipment and apparel, has published its Sustainability Report, detailing the progress made and the goals that will guide its environmental and social commitment in the coming years.

“As mountaineers, we know that every decision on the mountain has consequences, and we apply that same principle to how we manufacture and distribute our products,” says Hamish Dunn, Brand Director.

Key Progress in 2024

  • Emissions: 26% reduction compared to 2020, standing at 5,522 tons of CO₂ equivalent.
  • Circular Economy: Washing and repair service available online for customers in the UK and Germany.
  • Materials: 73% of the Autumn/Winter 2024 collection incorporates recycled fabrics.
  • Plastics: 46% reduction in the use of plastic bags for best-selling styles.
  • Team: Two new members added to the Sustainability department.

Medium and Long-Term Objectives

  • Recycle 98% of waste by 2030.
  • Eliminate PFAS in all new production from Autumn/Winter 2025 onwards.
  • Achieve 80% recycled materials in the Autumn/Winter 2025 collection.
  • Reduce emissions by 6% annually, using 2020 as a reference.

Measurement and Traceability

Mountain Equipment began recording its emissions in 2020 with Small World Consulting, combining general data with specific product information to accurately identify areas for improvement.

Regarding traceability and animal welfare, the brand stands out for its DOWN CODEX® program, active since 2009, which guarantees the tracking of down from its origin, ensuring ethical standards and eliminating practices such as live plucking or forced feeding of birds. Since 2022, this system incorporates the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), ensuring the exclusive use of high-quality virgin down. Each garment features a “Trace My Down” code, allowing customers to consult detailed online information about the filling material, from its fill power to the feather proportion.
