The FIS outlines an 82-event season with a greater technical focus and finals in Sun Valley
FIS has presented the provisional calendar for the 2026-27 Alpine Ski World Cup, a draft already given initial approval by the Council and set for final validation next June.
The season will commence in Sölden on October 24 and 25, 2026, and culminate in Sun Valley, host of the finals between March 20 and 25, 2027.
In total, the calendar includes 82 events: 43 on the men's circuit and 39 on the women's, distributed across 21 venues for men and 20 for women.
More technical focus in the season's DNA
The defining characteristic of this calendar is not just its volume, but its focus. FIS proposes a distribution that tilts the balance towards technical disciplines, with greater emphasis on slalom for men and giant slalom for women.
In figures, the men's circuit totals 20 speed events versus 23 technical ones, while the women's balances 18 speed events with 22 technical ones.
This adjustment is significant. It alters the type of racer who can contend for the overall title and favors profiles more consistent in technical disciplines over speed specialists.
A calendar with an Atlantic perspective
The competitive map reinforces the North America–Europe axis. The United States gains prominence with stops in Copper Mountain, Beaver Creek, Killington, and the Sun Valley finals, while Canada retains Mont-Tremblant on the calendar.
In Europe, the circuit maintains its backbone with resorts that define the history of alpine skiing:
Val d’Isère, Val Gardena, Alta Badia, Wengen, Kitzbühel, Schladming, or Åre, among others.
Some venues are still marked as "TBC," pending final confirmation and, in certain cases, contingent on adjustments in television production.
The decisive block of the women's circuit
On the women's calendar, the intensity is concentrated between January and February. This is the period where much of the season is decided.
Stops like St. Anton, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Kronplatz, Jasná, Kranjska Gora, Lenzerheide, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen chain together key weeks before heading to the United States for the close.
