Quim Salarich and Juan del Campo: Representing Spain in World Cup Slalom

The two specialists from the Royal Spanish Winter Sports Federation (RFEDI), Quim Salarich and Juan del Campo, will be present this Sunday, November 16, at the incipient Slalom (SL) World Cup season in Levi, Finland. This event is particularly relevant this year due to its proximity to the Olympic calendar.

Quim Salarich, 31, trained at La Molina Club d’Esports, remains one of the most prominent figures in Spanish slalom. His 2021-2022 season was particularly memorable, with high-level results: Top-15 finishes in Val d’Isère, Madonna di Campiglio, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and Flachau, in addition to an outstanding 5th place in Meribel, where he dominated the second run.

Meanwhile, Juan del Campo, a member of Club EURO, is already a consolidated competitor on the international circuit and has accumulated multiple qualifications for the second run. His 2023-2024 season was marked by notable consistency, with a 17th place in Aspen, a 24th in Kitzbühel and Gurgl, and a 25th in Wengen. Added to this are a Top-4 in the Levi European Cup and a Top-5 in Tignes, results that reinforce his upward trajectory.

The Levi event opens a crucial season for many skiers, who are adjusting their preparation with an eye on the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic Games (February 6–22). Quim Salarich (LMCE–FCEH) and Juan del Campo (EURO–NKEF) will be Spain's two main hopes at the start of a campaign that could prove decisive: a solid performance in the first competitions of the calendar would help consolidate their Olympic chances and even increase the number of Spanish spots in future events, as has happened in previous editions.

Both skiers face the start of the circuit after a demanding preseason in Ushuaia (Argentina), where they completed a volume of training that allows them to aspire to a Top-30 position in the first run. Their motivation is high, and Levi is also a particularly significant venue for both athletes, adding an emotional component to their debut in the new campaign.

The season is once again shaping up to be a highly contested competition for the Crystal Globe, even more so in a year marked by the proximity of the Olympic Games. Figures such as Clément Noël (FRA), Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR), Loïc Meillard (SUI), and Linus Strasser (GER) will face off in an extremely demanding calendar, where any error can be decisive. Furthermore, special attention will be paid to the progress of emerging talents like Lucas Piñeiro (BRA) and the return of Marcel Hirscher (NED), who rejoins the circuit after an irregular season conditioned by an injury.
