Sierra de Béjar to Open Ski Season Next Month

Over the past weekend, snowfall reached the slopes of Sierra de Béjar-La Covatilla and, since then, low temperatures have remained stable, allowing the snowmaking system to be activated. As a result, the resort is now working on preparing the beginners' area for the planned opening on December 5th.

However, the inauguration will not be particularly grand. The resort is facing various maintenance issues stemming from neglect during the previous municipal administration: the snow cannons were left exposed to the elements all summer, without any protection, rendering several of them inoperable. New parts have already been requested from Technoalpin, with delivery to Sierra de Béjar still pending.

The chairlift will also not be operational, its commissioning dependent on a complex repair that required disassembling the reducer and sending it to POMA's facilities in Grenoble (France). The part arrived on November 12th, but the timelines communicated by the company indicate it cannot be reinstalled before the end of January, unless a favorable unforeseen circumstance allows the process to be expedited.

Even so, its assembly will still be subject to weather conditions, and the V7 inspection of the lift will remain pending, a mandatory requirement for its reopening.

Nonetheless, the resort staff has worked intensely these past few days, preparing every corner of the facilities. Not only have offices and common areas been painted, but slopes have also been cleared, waste removed, and drains clogged with dirt and mud cleaned.

Additionally, the wooden hut on the cafeteria terrace protecting the control panel for the beginners' conveyor belt, a lift that did not operate last season, has been repaired. The facilities showed such a level of neglect that, during the disassembly of the chairlift's motor, the hubs were found full of leaves and dirt.

Despite the inconveniences, 15 days before its opening, the City Council insists that the date will be met. They invite those who wish to visit the facilities, observe the progress of the work, enjoy the cafeteria, and, if the beginners' area is finally enabled as expected, briefly try skiing or accompany the little ones in their first steps on the snow.
