Fresh snow, full skiable domain, and Christmas programming position Sierra Nevada for an exceptional start to the season.
Sierra Nevada welcomes Christmas with one of its best starts in recent years. Intense weekend snowfalls, which have left more than 30 centimeters of fresh snow in all areas, now allow the resort to offer over 50 skiable kilometers, with optimal conditions and quality powder snow.
Thanks to these snowfalls and the continuous work of Cetursa Sierra Nevada's Mountain teams, the skiable domain now extends across its six zones. Borreguiles, Veleta, and El Río are joined by Loma de Dílar, Laguna de las Yeguas, and Cauchiles, the latter with partial routes. The entire vertical drop of the resort, the 1,200 meters separating the summit of Veleta from Pradollano, is now operational, which is unusual for this time of year.
The snowfall has completely transformed the landscape of the Granada resort, though it has also raised the avalanche risk to level 3 out of 5. Snow accumulations have caused avalanches in areas such as La Laguna and the San Juan valley, necessitating extreme caution and temporarily delaying some openings.
In parallel, the Produced Snow department has resumed snow production on the slopes closest to Pradollano to reinforce the routes in the lower part of the domain. Currently, snow depths range between 45 and 80 centimeters, consolidating a solid base for the coming days.
Beyond skiing, Sierra Nevada arrives at Christmas with a program designed for all audiences. Santa Claus will tour the slopes on December 23 and 24, the Plaza de Andalucía will host a Christmas market from the 26th to the 29th, and children's cinema will liven up the afternoons for the little ones in early January. Music will also play a prominent role, with pop, electronic, and dance music sessions on the Borreguiles chill-out terrace.
The most symbolic highlight will come on New Year's Eve, when for the first time the resort will broadcast the midnight chimes from the Plaza de Andalucía via Canal Sur Televisión, cementing Sierra Nevada's status as one of southern Europe's most special winter settings to bid farewell to the year.
