Sierra Nevada Prepares for Season Opening

Sierra Nevada awoke today covered by a white mantle after the passage of storm Claudia, which brought snow to the highest areas of the massif. The resort has activated its machinery and snowmaking systems, after five days of favorable conditions, to compact the recent snowfall and accelerate the preliminary work for the start of the winter season.

These initial actions primarily focus on preparing areas where snow accumulation has been sufficient, especially in the Borreguiles area and above 2,500 meters of altitude, where the snow cover has settled more consistently.

For now, efforts are concentrated on consolidating several slopes in the Borreguiles sector, such as Perdiz and Zorro. However, the technical team has also begun to evaluate the Zayas slope, located in the Veleta area.

The technical teams have activated the piste bashers to compact the recent snow and optimize the effects of the event. Simultaneously, the artificial snowmaking system is operating at maximum capacity in areas where thermal conditions allow, with the aim of reinforcing the base and advancing the preparation of the skiable area.

Although the snowfall has shown variations according to altitude, the episode represents a significant step forward for the Granada resort towards the start of the season. If temperatures remain low in the coming days, Sierra Nevada will be able to accelerate preparation work in the highest elevations of the complex, whose opening was initially scheduled for November 29, although there is now a possibility of an earlier opening.

For now, the target remains Saturday, November 29, with the expectation of opening some blue slopes in the Borreguiles area, as well as the activity area of Fuente del Mirlo, where the Snow Factory, an installation capable of producing snow even at temperatures above zero, has also been put into operation. However, given current conditions, it's highly probable that its intervention was not necessary.
