Sierra Nevada Updates: Road Renovation and a Cable Car

The Andalusian Government has begun the comprehensive renovation of the A-395 road, allocating 19 million euros to improve road safety, pavement condition, and accessibility of the main access to Sierra Nevada.
Concurrently, one of the most anticipated projects for the resort continues to advance: the replacement of the Parador chairlift. This lift, which connects Pradollano with the residential area and previously reached the Los Peñones car park, has been the subject of numerous studies. Among the options considered at the time, even the construction of an underground funicular was contemplated.
The A-395 project involves an investment of 19 million euros to completely renovate the pavement, reinforce the stability of the route, and modernize protection systems against harsh winter conditions. This road, which carries thousands of skiers, workers, and supply vehicles each season, will undergo improvements in its pavement, drainage network, retaining walls, and signage. Specific measures will also be incorporated to optimize its performance during periods of ice and snow, with the aim of ensuring safer and smoother traffic flow.
Regarding the debate over the funicular, the alternative finally chosen is a pulsed gondola lift, valued as the most efficient and environmentally adapted solution. The planned route will connect the Los Peñones car park with the Pradollano core, offering a direct, fast, and stable link between both areas.
This new system will have a transport capacity of nearly 2,000 passengers per hour per direction, representing a significant improvement over the current lift. Furthermore, its integration into the resort's urban structure minimizes the project's impact: by traversing an already established area, it only requires light supports, facilitating both its implementation and its harmony with the landscape.
