Skiing at the End of the World: Cerro Castor Inaugurates the 2026 Season

While in Europe we seek refuge from the heat among beaches, swimming pools, and air conditioning, winter has just begun in the extreme south of the planet. Cerro Castor, the southernmost ski resort in the world, has officially inaugurated its 2026 season, once again making Ushuaia one of the great destinations for those who pursue snow even in the middle of the boreal summer.

Located just 26 kilometers from the capital of Tierra del Fuego, the resort offers a unique setting where wild nature, quality snow, and modern infrastructure transform the so-called End of the World into an increasingly relevant destination for skiers worldwide.

A Season Backed by Technology

One of Cerro Castor's great assets remains its ability to guarantee excellent snow conditions throughout the season. The complex boasts the largest artificial snow production system in South America, capable of covering more than 35% of the skiable area with 45 cannons and lances, reducing dependence on weather conditions.

This infrastructure allows for a long and reliable season, a feature especially valued by international travelers and sports teams conducting off-season training in the Southern Hemisphere.

650 Hectares for All Levels

The ski area extends over 6.5 km² (650 hectares) with an altitude difference of approximately 800 meters and 36 slopes distributed across various difficulty levels, served by 14 lifts.

Its facilities include the largest snowpark in South America, a ski cross circuit, cross-country ski trails, a large beginner area, and an ice-skating rink that expands options beyond alpine skiing.

The Del Valle quadruple chairlift, added last season, continues to improve circulation in one of the mountain's most technical sectors, thanks to its 1,400-meter length and panoramic views of the Fuegian landscape.

A Destination Designed for Families

Cerro Castor also maintains a significant commitment to families. Its school gathers over 120 certified instructors and offers alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, adaptive skiing, and specific programs for those wishing to perfect their technique.

The youngest visitors have different spaces adapted to each age, from Kinder Castor for babies to Krundi Club and the children's ski and snowboard schools, allowing families to enjoy the mountain with complete comfort.

Gastronomy with Fuegian Identity

The experience extends far beyond the slopes. The complex features eight gastronomic venues distributed between the base and various points of the mountain.

Among them, Morada del Águila stands out, known for its regional cuisine and specialties such as the traditional Fuegian lamb cooked à la cruz over lenga wood. Also noteworthy are Terrazas del Castor, with gourmet proposals and sushi made with local fish, and Restaurant 480, the complex's largest eatery, offering expansive views of the snowy landscape.

A Benchmark of the Austral Winter

Each season, Cerro Castor welcomes travelers seeking to experience winter in July and August, as well as numerous national and international teams who leverage the quality of its snow to prepare for the Northern Hemisphere season.

With the opening of the 2026 season, the resort reaffirms its position as one of the great snow references outside of Europe and North America, consolidating Ushuaia as one of the ski capitals of the Austral winter.
