Snowmobile-Ignited Fire at Grandvalira

The Grandvalira ski resort suffered a fire on the night of Saturday, the 22nd, which resulted in the total destruction of a technical room in the Encampadana sector, essential for the operation of the artificial snow production system. The incident rendered essential snowmaking equipment unusable, leading to a considerable impact on the infrastructure's operability.

According to initial hypotheses, the fire originated in a snowmobile located inside the affected technical cabin, identified as SDM3, which housed hydraulic systems, pressure pumps, and the equipment necessary to distribute water flow and produce snow. The fire spread within minutes, advancing with great intensity and generating a dense column of smoke visible from various points of the ski domain.

The Ensisa operator responsible for checking the installation used two extinguishers in an attempt to contain the flames, but without success. The ferocity of the fire necessitated the intervention of firefighters, who worked for nearly two hours with two units. By the time they arrived, the approximately one hundred square-meter cabin had already been reduced to ashes.

Despite the total destruction of the SDM3 technical room, the resort assures that snow production in the area will not be compromised. Grandvalira has other operational snowmaking networks that allow it to maintain service, although it will be necessary to reorganize flows and adjust planning to redistribute the load among alternative systems.

The resort has already begun evaluating the economic scope of the incident and the work needed to reconstruct the lost infrastructure. The incident occurs at a particularly delicate time, just as resorts start snow production to ensure optimal base and depth for the start of the season.

Even so, the existence of redundant systems and the rapid intervention of technical teams allow operations to continue for now while repair work progresses.
