The Spanish delegation will be made up of five freeriders for the first edition of the FIS World Championship, scheduled for next February in Ordino-Arcalís.
The celebration of the first-ever FIS Freeride World Championship marks a key step forward for the international projection and consolidation of Spanish freeriding. The event will take place between February 1 and 6, 2026, in Ordino-Arcalís, Andorra.
Spain will be represented by five athletes: Núria Castán, Abel Moga, Elisabet Marina, Pol Sabidó, and Jokin Ruiz de Larramendi, selected by the Royal Spanish Winter Sports Federation (RFEDI) for an event that will bring together 66 freeriders from 17 countries.
Among the summoned athletes, Núria Castán and Abel Moga stand out as international freeride referentes and regular participants of the Freeride World Tour (FWT). Both secured direct qualification based on their position in the professional ranking, reinforcing the path blazed years ago by Aymar Navarro, current technical director of the discipline at RFEDI.
The Spanish team is completed by Elisabet Marina, Pol Sabidó, and Jokin Ruiz de Larramendi, who obtained their spots through the national and continental quota system established by the FIS. This access model combines ranking position in the Freeride World Tour Pro with continental and country quotas, as well as special invitations, such as the one granted to Andorra as the championship host.
The presence of five national representatives highlights the growth and relevance that freeride has acquired within the Spanish federative framework. The RFEDI officially incorporated this modality into the national teams in June 2023, positioning itself among the federations that have most determinedly committed to its development and competitive consolidation.
The Andorran domain of Ordino-Arcalís, considered a reference point for freeride in the Pyrenees, will host this inaugural edition of the World Championship at a key moment for the evolution of the discipline. Since the FIS assumed management of the Freeride World Tour in 2022, the institutionalization and professionalization of freeride has intensified, with the aim of integrating it into the Olympic horizon.
