Tommaso Saccardi Triumphs in Baqueira, Seizes Slalom Europa Cup Lead

The Stadium Fernández Ochoa in Baqueira Beret hosted a high-level slalom on February 4th, concluding the double European Cup event with a clear victory for Italian Tommaso Saccardi. This result positions him as the new leader of the continental circuit after two very solid performances in Val d’Aran: a second place on the 3rd and a win in this second race.

Saccardi dominated a demanding race from the first run, characterized by a technical course and high pace. With a time of 55.39, the Italian took the lead, followed by Hugo Desgrippes and Adam Hofstedt. In the second run, he adapted precisely to the course conditions and extended his lead to finish with a total time of 1:58.13, leaving Desgrippes at +1.26 and Antoine Azzolin at +1.44. The podium was completed by three habitual World Cup circuit skiers.

Among the outstanding names of the day was Swiss Ramon Zenhäeusern, Olympic silver medalist, who finished the race within the top 5, confirming the competitive level of the event.

From a Spanish perspective, Quim Salarich achieved a commendable top 15 after a consistent race, while Juan del Campo finished in 20th position, earning his first European Cup points of the season. Both managed to qualify for the second run, a significant achievement in a particularly selective slalom. Salarich showed competitive skiing despite a course not entirely favorable to his style, and Del Campo managed a very technical second run, marked by changes in visibility and short distances between gates.

The event also provided crucial experience for young Spanish skiers such as Roger Barceló, Marc Ubeira, Luken Garitano, and Tomás Barata, who continue to gain international experience in a highly demanding circuit.

Organizationally, Baqueira Beret once again received recognition from teams, participants, and FIS itself for the condition of the slope and event management. The work of the slope staff, local clubs, and volunteers allowed optimal conditions to be maintained throughout the competition, consolidating the resort as a reliable venue for international events.

Following this result, Tommaso Saccardi leads the European Cup overall standings with 370 points, followed by Frenchman Auguste Aulnette with 358. In third position is a three-way tie between Hans Grahl Madsen, Hugo Desgrippes, and Jakob Greber, all with 350 points.

The competition was broadcast live via Baqueira Beret's official streaming, as well as on Teledeporte, RTVE Play, and Esport3, reinforcing the media visibility of an event that once again places the Pyrenees on the European alpine skiing map.
