The winter of 2025-26 brings good news for ski enthusiasts: American Airlines will connect Sun Valley with direct flights from Chicago and Phoenix. From December 18 to April 6, travelers can fly non-stop to one of the epicenters of American skiing, enjoying greater comfort and reduced transit time. With these new routes, the airline expands its winter network, adding over 70 daily flights to snow destinations such as Aspen, Missoula, and now Sun Valley, solidifying its position as a key player in the North American ski air travel landscape.
The 2025-26 ski season approaches, and American Airlines celebrates in its own way: expanding its network to one of North America's most coveted winter destinations. Sun Valley, Idaho, joins the list of cities connected by direct flight thanks to two new routes from Chicago (ORD) and Phoenix (PHX). Starting December 18, 2025, snow enthusiasts will have easier, non-stop access to one of the ski epicenters in the U.S.
The service will be daily and seasonal, operating until April 6, 2026, just as the sun begins to gain ground on the snowflakes. Tickets will be available from June 30, and flights will be on dual-class aircraft, also offering a premium cabin for those seeking comfort at altitude.
With these routes, American not only strengthens its presence in winter destinations but also connects more than 150 U.S. cities to Sun Valley with just one stop. No more juggling schedules and layovers: now, you can have breakfast at home and arrive in time for après-ski dinner in the Idaho mountains.
The Conquest of the Winter Skies
This announcement does not come alone. American has also confirmed new direct routes to other ski cities. Noteworthy are the flights between Charlotte and Aspen (ASE), positioning the airline as offering the most connections to Aspen nationwide. And from Chicago, Missoula (MSO), Montana, also joins as a direct flight destination for the first time in winter.
“American is focused on giving our customers the most choice to pick their perfect vacation destination,” says Jason Reisinger, Director of Global Network Planning. “And now there are even more ways to turn travel dreams into reality.”

A New Aerial Map to the Snow
Sun Valley, already connected in winter by Delta (Salt Lake City, L.A., and Seattle), United (Denver, Chicago, S.F., and L.A.), and Alaska Airlines (Seattle year-round), now receives a definitive boost to attract more visitors. American's new service promises less transit time and more time on the slopes, precisely what travelers who are unwilling to negotiate with the clock seek.
