After a decade of silence, the Banzai Tour roars back to life in the mountains of California. Palisades Tahoe is preparing to welcome skiers and snowboarders to a race where anything can happen: jumps, crashes, and impossible lines in a full-speed descent. This is how legend is written.
Few events in the skiing world evoke as much raw energy and rebellious spirit as the Banzai Tour. This race, conceived by alpine skiing icon Daron Rahlves, returns after more than a decade to the place where it left an indelible mark: Palisades Tahoe, California.
From April 10 to 12, 2026, the legendary course near the KT-22 chairlift will once again be filled with speed, crashes, skids, and impossible jumps. The format is clear and brutal: four simultaneous racers descending an ungroomed track that blends the unpredictability of freeride with the intensity of skicross. There is no timer. Just be first to the finish. The rest is survival.
The Return of a Legend
Daron Rahlves, Olympic athlete, world champion, and a benchmark in American skiing, last competed in this event over ten years ago. His vision was clear: to reclaim the wild spirit of early off-piste races and adapt it to the 21st century.
The Banzai Tour is directly inspired by the Silver Belt Classic, a race held between 1940 and 1975 at Sugar Bowl, another resort near Lake Tahoe. That event consisted of a giant slalom on unprepared slopes, descending through ravines, rocks, trees, and virgin snow. Rahlves adopted that legacy and transformed it into something new and vibrant in 2009.
Since then, the Banzai has earned a special place in the freeride skiing imagination: a no-holds-barred race, with no room for error and finishes that are always unpredictable.
Palisades, Nature's Home for Chaos
Palisades Tahoe, one of California's most iconic resorts, has been the birthplace of some of the world's best skiers. With its technical and steep terrain, especially in the KT-22 area, it is the perfect setting for an event like this.
"Passion, courage, and gravity collide," the resort declared when confirming the tour's return. And that is no exaggeration. Previous editions have been characterized by spectacular falls, impossible comebacks, and excitement until the last turn.
