Untimely Review Prevents Tavascán from Opening Alpine Ski Slopes

The Lladorre Town Council, owner of the municipal ski resort of Tavascán, has announced that the alpine ski slopes will remain closed and unmaintained for the upcoming season. This decision stems from the inability to timely complete the chairlift's inspection, an essential element for accessing the upper reaches of the ski domain. Only the beginner slope located at the base of the resort will remain operational, as communicated by the council via its social networks.

Nevertheless, the municipal will is to preserve winter activity in the enclave. The cross-country ski circuit will open in its entirety when weather permits, and snowshoe trails will also be enabled. Furthermore, there are plans to promote Tavascán as a starting point for ski mountaineering. Regarding services, the Refugio de la Pleta del Prat will continue to operate normally, as will access roads and parking, which will be maintained according to the needs arising from each snowfall event.

Although the Town Council has not detailed the exact causes of this pause in alpine skiing, weeks ago it had already warned that the deadlines for the chairlift inspection were very tight and they hoped to be ready in time for the Christmas season. Concurrently, they requested that the Generalitat advance the committed million euros to ensure the season's opening. However, coordinating such a substantial contribution between two public administrations requires formal procedures that have slowed the process.

Nor has FGC Turisme fully defined its position regarding the future of alpine skiing in Tavascán. At the presentation of the season's novelties, its president, Carles Ruiz, indicated that before making decisions, reflection was needed on the appropriateness of maintaining this modality at the resort.

For now, the Lladorre Town Council will focus its activities on alternatives to alpine skiing, keeping the refuge and the multi-purpose room operational. These spaces will host mountain courses, technical training stays, and educational activities. Additionally, equipment rental—including snowshoes, Nordic gear, and mountaineering equipment—and lessons with specialized instructors will be offered.

Despite everything, for this season, Nordic skiing circuits, access roads, the refuge, the resort's base, instructor services, equipment rental, and the use of the multipurpose room will be guaranteed, while alpine skiing remains suspended awaiting technical and financial solutions.
