Valgrande Pajares Ski Resort Opens Its First Slopes

On Tuesday, December 2, Valgrande-Pajares inaugurated the season by opening the slopes in the upper area, including all those in the Cuitu Negro sector. Operators continue to work on enabling some slopes in the middle area, weather permitting. To date, the accumulated snow depth, already compacted by machine grooming, is between 25 and 45 centimeters.

Forecasts are favorable: new precipitation is expected in the coming days, and snowfall of up to an additional 30 centimeters is announced for this Thursday in the Lenense mountains. This new layer, added to the existing one, should consolidate a solid base for the weekend.

However, the opening has not been without difficulties. Valgrande-Pajares has started the season without being able to use its artificial snow system, which has been out of order for weeks. Recent conditions have prevented progress on its repair, though the resort plans to fix it as soon as possible to make snow during the nights. Furthermore, repairs to the water reservoir and some artificial snow cannons, essential for ensuring more ski days during the season, are still pending.

Another inconvenience occurred last Saturday, when the gondola could not be started for tourist use. According to the scheduled calendar, the resort should have operated that day for both recreational and sporting activities. However, the new technical director decided not to enable the lift, a surprising measure that directly affected the concessionaire of the Cuitu Negro cafeteria and its four employees, who could not go up to open the business or carry out their work day.

Regarding tariffs, Valgrande-Pajares maintains the price of the day pass at 29 euros during high season and 23 euros in low season. Similarly, discounts applied to season passes for specific groups, such as large families, federated athletes, and child users, remain in effect.
